A Pallava Queen and the Silver Bhoga Srinivasa

A 7th-century gift offers a glimpse into the temple’s long record of patronage.

The official Tirumala temple-history account identifies a silver image known as Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy as a gift presented in 614 CE by the Pallava queen Samavai, also referred to as Perundevi.

The account places this image within Ananda Nilayam, the sacred inner complex. The record is a useful example of how temple history can be approached through named donors, objects, and dates—not only through broad dynastic narratives.

A careful reading should distinguish the documented donor-and-date tradition recorded by TTD from theological explanations of the deity and ritual. The latter belong to living devotional tradition and should be presented respectfully as such.
